A court order issued when an individual lacks the capacity to manage or make reasonable decisions about their legal and financial affairs. It appoints another person to act on their behalf. An Appointment Order may be called “adult guardianship,” “substitute decision-maker,” or a “committeeship” in different regions. In most provinces and territories, the Office of the Public Guardian and/or Trustee can help you learn how to obtain an Appointment Order in your region.
