Age of Majority is the age at which a person is legally considered an adult. The Settlement Agreement requires that compensation is issued only after a Claimant reaches the Age of Majority.

Age of Majority in Canada

In Canada, the Age of Majority is either 18 or 19, depending on the province or territory you currently live in.

Age of Majority is:

  • 18 in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan
  • 19 in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut and the Yukon

You can start the process earlier and submit your Claim two years before you reach Age of Majority.

The Administrator cannot accept Claims from people younger than two years from Age of Majority, nor can it issue compensation before you have reached the Age of Majority, if you are eligible.
