Free Claim support coming to Sault Ste. Marie on June 4 and 5

Free Claim support sessions for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement will take place in Sault Ste. Marie on June 4 and 5, 2026.
The sessions are for First Nations people who may be eligible for compensation through the Settlement, including:
- First Nations Children who were removed from their homes by Child Welfare Authorities.
- The Child or their Caregiving Parent or Caregiving Grandparent must have been living on reserve or in the Yukon at the time they were first removed
- The Child must have been placed into care funded by Indigenous Services Canada
- Certain caregivers who had Children removed from their home.
- The caregiver must have been the Removed Child’s biological or adoptive parent or grandparent, or a First Nations Stepparent.
- The caregiver must have lived with and cared for the Removed Child at the time of removal
- The caregiver of the Child when they were first removed from care (if removed more than once).
Each session will begin with a short information presentation. Afterward, trained Claims Helpers will be available to provide free support to anyone who wants help completing their Claim.

Session times:
June 4
- Morning session: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Evening session: 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
June 5
- Morning session: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Afternoon session: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants are asked to bring:
- Valid government-issued identification
- Their current mailing address
Claim support often takes less than one hour. People may arrive at any time during their registered session. Wait times may vary.
