Similar to an enduring Power of Attorney, a Protection Mandate is a legal document that allows a person to appoint someone else to make decisions on their behalf should they become incapable of doing so. A Protection Mandate can only be signed by a person who can make financial and legal decisions. It stays in force if the person loses capacity to make decisions about their property or finances. Protection Mandates are used mainly in Québec and must be either notarized or approved by the provincial court.
