The Settlement Approval Hearing is an important step of every proposed settlement in a class action lawsuit. The Court will consider the proposed settlement agreement, written and oral submissions from lawyers, any submissions from the representative plaintiffs, and written and oral statements from class members, and must decide whether the proposed settlement is fair, reasonable and in the best interest of the class as a whole.

After the hearing, the Court may decide on approval the same day or take some time to review all the information provided before making a final decision on whether to approve or refuse the proposed settlement.
